What students say
"After my weekly critique with Arthur, we talked about thinking more of the value structure and he showed me how this didn't have much value range division between the areas, so I went back to rework this. I painted a darker background and a thin layer of my midtone skin value all over the face apart from the shadows, and it was immediately so much better! It even seems a better drawing when actually I didn't touch the drawing at all! All the changes in colour were still visible but now inside the value range for the light, so I used everything that was already there and this was quite fast, 1 hour of work or so? But I'm really excited about the difference so I'm sharing!!"
-- Francesca
“I loved the way Arthur explained so many techniques in detail and shared so many insights... All over my learning curve was very steep and I understood a lot more than what I ever did with just watching YouTube videos or studying books. There is not much to improve - it was really the best art instruction course I ever did”
-- Sigi
It was exactly what I needed as I had been away from painting portraits for a couple of years and although had been attempting on my own some self-doubt. This challenge gave me the tools to feel confident and new approaches to make it more interesting.
